Louche Spring/Summer 2010

Castaway

Think new romantic  gypsies and disheveld castaways. Shapes are voluminous and flowing – dhoti trousers, outsized blouses, paper bag waists, tassels, draped and swagged shapes, interspersed with striped pieces and military influences. A bit of Louche is injected with a fun pirate theme – reworked jolly roger flags, dirty washed denim, tasseled waistcoats, rope lacing, utility detailing and frayed pieces. This is our transitional story, providing a bit of respite for the girl who doesn’t do ‘pretty’. The palette is muted, dirty blues, washed khakis, soft grey marl and a splash of vermillion red.

Punch & Judy

Take the ubiquitous nautical theme and give it a seaside carnival twist. Punch and Judy shows inspire a vintage feeling with deckchair stripes, multi-coloured flag prints, nautical rope detailing, conversational prints and buttons, seersucker stripes, clashing brights and polka dots. Shapes are 50s sundresses, high waisted shorts, bikini-inspired tops, playsuits, flippy skirts and stripey vests. Colours are playful – poppy red, sunshine yellow, sea blue, magenta and orange-aid.

Boudoir

Ladies raid your top drawer as sheer underwear makes the transition to outerwear. Unlike Madonna’s hard take on this look this time around it is sensual, sheer and delicate. Think diaphanous layers of tulle, spot mesh, sheer knits, organza, chantilly lace, lingerie silks, and contrast lace trims. Key shapes integrate corsetry detailing, slip dressing and pyjama separates – tap shorts, bed jackets and elongated bralettes. Colours are powder soft lilac, pink and nudes with a twist of black.

Once Upon A Time

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland – released in march 2010 – inspires a fairytale story with sweet-as-pie dresses given a dark twist – ‘Dirty pretty things’. It’s Sunday Best dressing turned on it’s head. Quirky prints liven up the range – Rabbit screen prints, Queen of hearts yardages and Victoriana etched drawings.  White peter pan collars, waisted full-skirted dresses. Alice bands in all colours and adorned with bows. Colours are pretty with an unexpected dark edge – think baby ink with a splash of darest maroon.
