Culture Klash – January 2011
Emerge from the winter hibernation in a riot of print and colour, finding inspiration from the exotic. Graphic tribal prints, mexican colour gradations, Aztec stripes, African block prints and Aboriginal dots create a multi-cultural melange. Mix cultures and animal prints within the one design and digitally enhance for a modern edge. The look is a nomadic traveller with an eye for collecting.
The more mis-matched and clashing the patterns the better. Intarsia animal sweaters go african with flamingoes and zebras. Multi prints are combined within the one garment; designed collision. Ikat and animal prints are key. Essential items include blanket wrap knits, printed peg leg trousers, spliced dresses, graphic jumpsuits and printed maxi dresses. Colours are not to be shyed away from – with vermillion red, ochre, indigo, sunflower and tobacco.
